Celebrating 150 Years!
1868-2018 Parkers Lake/Messiah Church
What makes this church unique is not the buildings that we have had through the years. It is not the names that we have placed on our buildings. It is the common story that we share. Our story welcomes each person and weaves their lives into this beautiful tapestry known today as Messiah United Methodist Church. There are threads to this story that stretch back to 1868, but each one of us adds to this story as we share our own lives in love and service. At the center of our common story, we find the presence of Christ represented in the cross. That much has never and will never change.
We hope you’ll celebrate this milestone anniversary with us,
Saturday, September 29 through Sunday, October 28:
Honor & Remember
Our month of celebration begins on Saturday, September 29 at 11:30 am with a Young@Hearts lunch and history program that will take us back to the early days of Parkers Lake and Messiah Church and also look toward the future. Learn about some of our founders, their lives and times, their church — our roots. An RSVP is requested, by Monday, September 24.
Pray
Beginning on Sunday, September 30 you are invited to follow a 30-Day Daily Guide to Prayer, opening ourselves and our church to the breakthrough of the Holy Spirit. If you do not already receive the daily GPS by email, you may sign up to receive this Daily Guide to Prayer by following the link below and selecting “Daily Devotional (Grow, Pray, Study) Email.” If you currently receive the GPS, you will already receive the Guide to Prayer. It can also be found weekly online or printed copies are available on the wall across from the Library near the front doors of the church.

Serve
During October, we will be collecting new and gently used children’s books for Oakwood Elementary School. Each year at Oakwood, every student celebrates their birthday by choosing a book to keep as a gift from the Birthday Book Shelf. In honor of Messiah’s anniversary, we’d like to help restock their Birthday Book Shelf by collecting at least 150 new books, through Sunday, October 28.
Join us for Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 27. We’ll be deploying servants into the surrounding community to Make a Difference in the lives of our neighbors by sharing the love of Christ. With your help, we can reach our goal of 150 individuals serving on this special day! YOU can Make a Difference! Sign up to serve as an individual, a family or with your friends. There’s something for every age & skill level. Registration for this serving opportunity has closed. Please call the church office at (763) 473-6968 for more information.
Provide a Legacy
On Sunday, October 7, we will begin writing notes and prayers to be sealed in a time capsule that we hope will be opened at the 200th anniversary of Messiah Church. To ensure your message is preserved, special paper and specific instructions will be provided. Your special notes can be returned to the wooden box in Heritage Hall by Sunday, October 14 to insure they are sealed in a special place in the Columbarium for the next generation. What hope, prayer, and message would you send to the church in 2068?
On Sunday, October 14, everyone is invited to gather in the sanctuary at 10 am for an all-church photo that will be included in the time capsule:
