Welcome to Messiah Church!

WHERE LIFE & PURPOSE CONNECT

Welcome, we’ve been waiting for you!

Messiah is an inclusive community of people who come alongside each other to love as Jesus did: loving God, loving each other, and putting that love to work in the world.

Since our beginning in 1868, change has been a recurring theme. What was a small country church has become a large suburban congregation. We have changed buildings, locations, and even names. But the one thing that has not changed is a commitment to following Jesus.

Today, we are a congregation of 900 members with a worship attendance of 500 in person and online. We have a strong Faith Group ministry with groups for children, youth, and adults. We are involved in service projects in our neighborhood and around the world. We started Bloom Early Learning & Child Care to make child care available for families unable to afford child care. Messiah is actively involved in projects in the west suburban area, Minneapolis, and Kenya.

Our vision is to go build relationships, transforming lives
through deep meaningful connections with others.

Our mission is to grow disciples of Jesus Christ through loving God,
loving each other, and loving the world.

Looking for a church near you?
Come and enter the journey with us as we extend God’s love into a world of need.

Our Beliefs

Messiah is part of the Minnesota Annual Conference, of the United Methodist Church, led by Bishop Lanette Plambeck. The UMC is the second largest Protestant denomination in America. We uphold our heritage by seeking to be generous in spirit, broadminded, devoted to Jesus Christ, and wholly surrendered to God. We strive for personal holiness by inviting people into a life-transforming relationship with Jesus, and we pursue social holiness by addressing key issues of our time.

We share a common heritage with other Christians, holding to the historic essentials of the Christian faith. We have a passionate faith with strong convictions, but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We are willing to ask questions, wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion.

We are people whose faith is rooted in and built upon the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. We hold the Bible to be divinely inspired and are committed to live by its words. We are thinking Christians who make use of scholarship and study the scriptures carefully, applying what we discover to our daily lives. When we encounter theological differences, we bear in mind John Wesley’s approach, “in essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
We believe we are to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. We value passionate worship, relevant preaching, small groups to do life together, and serving those in need.

United Methodists value the full participation of women and men, people of all backgrounds in every facet of fellowship and leadership.

As stated in our Inclusion Statement, "Messiah Church is a Christian community rooted in the love found in the life of Jesus where everyone is welcome to be one’s authentic self. We seek to provide a safe space to listen, learn, and love. We celebrate the diversity found in our community and our world, such as age, physical or mental ability, economic status, education, ethnicity, faith background, family status, gender identity, immigration status, marital status, nationality, political affiliation, race, and sexual orientation."

As we follow Jesus, we seek to adhere to John Wesley's Three Simple Rules, which are: Do No Harm. Do Good, And Stay in Love with God.
