6 youth and 2 adult leaders spent the week serving with YouthWorks in Lake Traverse, SD.
They spent time leading kids programming, doing work projects, and supporting local organizations that serve the under-served in the community. They learned about life on the Lake Traverse Reservation, unpacked some of the history of segregation in the community, and saw some of the sights around town. Here’s their “report back” with photos and thoughts from the youth and leaders:
Each Summer, Messiah Youth have two opportunities to spend a week serving others. Middle School and High School students participate in STORM Camp, where they work and worship. Groups of five youth and one adult spend the day serving in the community – building, painting, cleaning, weeding, etc. Each evening is spent in worship, complete with music, testimonies, and preaching.
High School students also have the opportunity to serve for a week with YouthWorks. They travel out of state and spend a week serving in various ways, while also learning about the community they are serving. Each evening there is an opportunity to engage with members of that community.
